Britannia Mine Museum, Vancouver Attractions
This fascinating museum is located at the site of Mill 3 of the Britannia Mine. The mine was an important source of copper for almost 70 years and back in the 1920’s was Canada’s largest mine.
Through a range of exhibits, tours and a multi-sensory, live-action show, visitors experience what it was like to be working and living in a remote, tight-knit mining community.
Passionate and friendly historic interpreters bring history to life, sharing real miners’ stories of both challenges and accomplishments. Highlights included a ride through an early haulage tunnel on an old mine train, mining demonstrations, panning for gemstones (you can keep what you find!), and the live-action, multi-sensory experience of BOOM! in the landmark Mill building.
A tactile exploration of Canadian industrial heritage and mining’s modern relevance, the Museum offers an immersive and authentic learning experience. History constantly evolves at the Museum, connecting the past, present and future of Canadian mining. Presenting historical and current information in fun, interactive and relatable formats allows guests to reflect on what mining means to them today, and what it means for future generations.
The museum is located on the scenic Sea to Sky Corridor between Squamish and Vancouver and is about 45 minutes from downtown Vancouver.
