    Why Kids Love Scary Stories

If you’ve got kids you know they’re sometimes inclined to hear spooky stories. In the scary stories for kids, a lot of the main characters are experiencing big feelings like isolation and new environments. These are things that kids relate to on a deeper level.

Of course, there are normal, non-scary stories that explore these feelings, however sometimes that’s not engaging enough for them, and they need something more engaging. The world is a scary place and mild-kid-friendly scary stories are a great way to introduce them to new things in a fun and engaging way.

The Science Behind Kids and Scary Stories

After hanging out with kids, whether they’re yours or someone else’s, you’ve likely experienced them telling you that they’ve seen a “ghost” or “monster” in their closet or under their bed. This is completely normal according to, child and adolescent psychiatrist, Aleta G. Angelosante. Children, in their formative years, often need something to fill up the gaps of what they see. A shadow under the bed is a monster. Something moving out of their peripheral vision is a ghost. Children learn through imagination and they can easily slip between fantasy and reality. This makes them much more likely to see something spooky around the corner than adults.

Surprisingly, there is science behind how scary stories help kids’ development. Reading a fictional scary story can allow children to rehearse so to speak how they might feel in an actual scary situation. Reading scary stories allows children to experience big emotions in a safe setting rather than a scary place for the first time. So, if your kid feels like there’s a monster under the bed, make sure you check to give them peace of mind and keep them excited to experience spooky things!

You may not want to show your child blood and gore which is perfectly fine! However, this spooky family ghost tour is the perfect introduction to scary stories. Read on to learn more about our tour!
